Waterproofing of the 6-lane, 25m swimming pool and basement area within a new fitness and leisure complex in West Sussex, Worthing. Situated adjacent to the existing Aquarena, the centre enjoys a unique seafront view, but is also exposed to the marine conditions indicative of its location.
To create a watertight solution for the main pool, which includes a moveable floor used for a variety of swimming activities. In addition, the basement area required robust protection from potential water ingress due to the site’s close proximity to the sea.
Xypex Admix was used as the sole waterproofing solution in all water retaining structures, as well as all basement areas. Xypex was requested by the main contractor and specified by the engineer, due it’s proven crystalline technology forming deep within the pores and capillaries, resisting liquid penetration and remaining potentially active for the lifetime of the concrete, within this harsh marine environment.
Xypex Admix C Series – All pools and basement areas
Xypex Concentrate – Used as a slurry in all joints and tie bolt holes
Hydroswell Bentostrip – Used in all joints and pipe penetrations
The installation process of Xypex meant that the contractor did not need to employ specialist or additional procedures and trades in the administration of the product. This ensured time and cost savings.
