Waterproofing to the 2400m2 basement car park and plant room of this new office development in central Doncaster, South Yorkshire.
To provide effective waterproofing system to the basement area utilising a proven product capable of achieving a Grade 3 (BS 8102:2009) level of protection.
Xypex Admix was a late specification change over the proposed waterproofing. It was selected due to its ability to create a Grade 3 (BS 8102:2009) completely dry environment without limiting the aspect ratio, shape, pour size or total volume of concrete that can be placed.
Xypex Admix was used in the 2400m2 basement slab that was poured up to steel sheet piles, whilst a Xypex joint detail was specifically designed to allow for any shrinkage of the concrete slab away from the steel sheet piles.
Xypex Admix C Series – Basement slab, lift pits
Xypex Concentrate – Day joints between concrete pours
Hydroswell Bentostrip – Day joints between concrete pours and between the concrete and the steel sheet piles
As a result of using Xypex, the contractor was able to pour concrete without the usual limitations of admixes, which reduced the number of joints required. This lowered the risk of water penetration and project costs, as well as recouping time lost within other areas of the build, ensuring the construction programme was kept on track.
