Waterproofing of over 1000m2 of concrete slabs as part of a major regeneration of Liverpool’s Paradise Street area. This was a high profile, high-pressure project in the year prior to the city’s European Capital of Culture status in 2008.
To effectively waterproof large areas of concrete without restricting pour sizes and aspect ratios, in order to expedite the construction process. BS 8102:1990 Grade 3 (totally dry habitable) & BS 8102:1990 Grade 4 (archive) levels of protection were required for this eminent city centre project, along with a 75-year warranty.
The groundwork contractor chose Xypex over the original specification, because it allowed bigger concrete pours whilst achieving the required standard of waterproofing.
Project specific joint details were designed for ‘pile cap to slab’ and ‘ground beam to slab’ joints, where Xypex Concentrate was used as both a slurry coat and a dry-pac.
Xypex Admix C Series -Basement slabs and walls
Xypex Concentrate – Joints between day pours
Hydroswell Bentostrip – Joints between day pours
Xypex enables concrete placement without the pour size and aspect ratio restrictions associated with traditional pore blocking waterproof admixtures. This brought the additional value engineering benefits over the original specification of both cost and time savings.
Xypex crystallization system is potentially permanently active and ready to react to any water ingress. The waterproofing protection lasts the lifetime of the concrete. This ensured that the Paradise Street warranty requirement of 75-years could be satisfied.
