Waterproofing for a 50m Olympic training pool within Portsmouth’s redeveloped Mountbatten Leisure Centre. The site is the city’s premier sports facility, with a reputation for hosting national and international sporting events.
To provide a simple, reliable and proven waterproofing system for this prestigious project. The pool facilities included a submersible boom and a moveable floor, accommodating a variety of activities such as lane swimming, synchronised swimming and aqua aerobics.
Xypex Admix was used within the concrete and Xypex Concentrate in the joints to waterproof the ‘boom-pit’.
The main concrete slab that the stainless steel pool liner sits on was specified without any additional waterproofing. Leaking cracks and joints developed within the slab during construction were repaired utilising Xypex Patch’n Plug and Concentrate post-installation, rendering the slab totally dry.
Once the facility was opened, a build up of water in the surrounding Alexandra Park produced leaks in the block-work & concrete retaining walls. These were subsequently repaired using Xypex Concentrate, Xypex Patch’n Plug and Xypex Megamix 1.
Xypex Admix C Series – Boom pit
Xypex Concentrate – Joints in the boom pit. Cracks within the main slabs where Xypex Admix was not used
Xypex Patch’n Plug – Cracks in the main slab where Xypex was not used
Xypex Megamix I – Retaining wall of plant room which was not previously waterproofed
Hydroswell Sealant – Joints in the boom pit
Xypex enabled the waterproofing of the swimming pool’s concrete slab as part of the pour, negating the requirement for additional processes, materials or trades. Unforeseen water ingress that occurred during and post build were dealt with using additional Xypex products, creating a coherent solution that could be warranted together.
