Value-engineering the waterproofing specification for a car park redevelopment in order to provide a simpler, more cost effective solution. The existing ground floor car park was being converted to new multi-storey facility within a popular out of town retail site in West London.
The car park re-development had been designed using a multi-process waterproofing system that involved the co-ordination of several procedures within the build programme. The contractor was looking to make time and cost savings to ensure least disruption to the works and negate the requirement for additional personnel.
Xypex Admix was selected to help ‘value engineer’ the waterproofing to one single process. Due to the unique abilities of the Xypex system, the installation of the car park deck could be reduced to just two procedures; positioning the steelwork and placing the concrete.
Xypex Admix C1000NF was used to ensure the concrete was completely waterproof over the composite deck. As Xypex places no restriction upon the contractor in terms of pour size or aspect ratio, the concrete for this project was placed in large bays between proprietary movement joints.
Hydroswell Sealant was placed between the concrete and the metal deck edging, ensuring both the first and top decks would be completely waterproof.
Xypex Admix C Series – Suspended car park slab
Xypex Concentrate – Day joints
Hydroswell Bentostrip – Day joints and pipe penetrations
Hydroswell Sealant – Joints to deck edges
Xypex enabled the contractor to value-engineer the original waterproofing specification to achieve the required cost and time saving for the build, reducing the installation to one single process and ensuring there was no need for additional personnel on-site.
