Waterproofing for a large habitable basement, including a full-range of leisure facilities, within a state of the art residential home located in the Lake District.
To provide Grade 3 (BS 8102:1990) waterproofing within the living space of a residential home, with areas of concrete exceeding 300mm structural thickness. The damp climatic conditions indicative of the Lake District, combined with the leisure facilities contained within the basement itself, required that the waterproofing serve two functions – impede water penetration to the floors and walls, whilst retaining water within the swimming pool itself.
Xypex Admix was used in over 1200m2 of concrete in the basement slab, walls, indoor swimming pool shell and accompanying balance tanks. Xypex Patch’n Plug and Xypex Concentrate were used to seal 21 cored penetrations in the pool shell which housed the underwater lights.
Xypex Admix C Series – Habitable basement, swmming pool shell
Xypex Concentrate – Day joints between day pours
Xypex Patch’n Plug – Service penetrations and pool lights
Hydroswell Bentostrip – Joints between day pours
A Grade 4 (BS 8102:1990) ‘paper archive’ level of waterproof protection was actually achieved due to the inherent qualities of Xypex technology working within the structural thickness of the concrete.
