Time-efficient, complete waterproofing system for centrally located 5-star London hotel, including basement and leisure facilities.
The main contractor was looking for a simple, tried and tested waterproofing solution that could enable the programme of works to be completed unhindered and with no additional trades or specialist skills outside of the existing workforce.
Xypex was selected to replace the originally specified membrane due to its proven track record and ability to save time. As Xypex is integral, there was no welding, gluing or joining of materials, which was especially important as this project had a lot of intersections, which could lead to potential areas of weakness to water ingress.
The waterproofing was achieved simultaneously with the concrete pours, avoiding additional processes prior, during or after the pouring of the concrete. In addition, no new skills had to be learnt. The whole basement area, used in excess of 1300m3 of concrete containing Xypex. Where there were day joints and up stands in excess of one metre thick, Xypex was applied as a coating, allowing these areas to be poured in ‘plain’ concrete and coated afterwards at a time to suit the programme.
Xypex Admix C Series – Basement and lift pits
Xypex Concentrate – Day joints and very thick up stands
Hydroswell Bentostrip – Joints between day pours and against sheet piles
Hydroswell Sealant – Against sheet piles
By utilising Xypex Admix in the concrete, the contractor saved approximately three weeks, eliminating the need for additional trades or processes within the build schedule.
The comprehensive product applications within the Xypex product range meant that all of the waterproofing was a Xypex solution and could be covered under a single warranty.
