Waterproofing for the conversion of a former art deco hotel in to luxury apartments in Saltdean, a seaside resort near Brighton in East Sussex. The original building, now listed by English Heritage, was first opened in 1938. The 4-acre site comprises 279 individual flats, leisure facilities and secure residents’ parking.
To provide a waterproofing system proven to be effective within a seaside location where there was a high risk of salt-water corrosion and water-ingress. Simplicity of installation was a foremost concern in this Grade II listed building.
Xypex C-Series Admix was used as an alternative to the original specification due to the fact that it can be installed without the need for additional processes or expertise, as it is an additive integral to the concrete pour with QA procedures provided by SMR Projects on-site.
Xypex Admix C Series – Slabs and retaining walls
Xypex Concentrate – Joints between day pours
Hydroswell Bentostrip – Day joints and pipe penetrations
The use of Xypex for both slabs and walls ensured simplification of process during the construction phase, but also in post-construction sign-off. Both areas were fully checked and guaranteed under the same warranty procedure.
