Seamless waterproofing of an 18,447 sq. m basement within a 7 acre mixed-use development, including a 250 bedroom hotel, swimming pool, commercial units and leisure facilities.
The shear scale of this massive site presented challenges for basement waterproofing, not only due to the extent of the area to be protected, but also because the sections were to be cast at different times.
Xypex was specified by the consultant engineer for use within the pile-capping beam for the entire basement perimeter, as well as the walls and slabs.
The crystalline structure that Xypex provides within permeated concrete means that a continuous crystalline ‘membrane’ could be maintained, even though the basement sections were cast at different times. This made Xypex the ideal solution to ensure robust waterproofing was sustained across the entire basement during and after construction.
Xypex Admix C Series – Entire capping beam, north east block basement and energy centre
Xypex Concentrate – All joints
Hydroswell Bentostrip – Joints between day pours and against sheet piles
The challenges that this vast and complex development presented were well suited to the inherent qualities of Xypex, enabling the required works to be completed in stages. The crystalline nature of the Xypex system meant that the waterproofing could be implemented as the construction developed, yet still provide integrated long-term water resistance.
