Award-winning luxury apartments sensitively re-developed to create modern leisure facilities, capable of withstanding the waterproofing demands of a seafront location.
This premium development, which combined the heritage of Victorian architecture with modern build quality and luxury facilities, required an integrated approach to waterproofing. A robust damp-proofing solution was essential for the basement to resist the tidal waters of the English Channel running beneath the site. In addition the swimming pool, housed in the basement leisure facilities, required guaranteed water containment.
Xypex was used exclusively within the basement area to resist the tidal waters of the Channel. In addition, the ground floor slab of the front gardens was cast using Xypex Admix to protect against standing water. The swimming pool housed within the basement gymnasium was cast using Xypex Admix and then further rendered with Xypex Megamix to keep the continuity of the Xypex crystalline structure prior to final tiling.
Xypex Admix C Series – Basement and lift pits, swimming pool
Xypex Concentrate – Day joints and as an initial coat prior to Megamix cap coat
Xypex Megamix I – Swimming pool shell and balance tanks
Hydroswell Bentostrip – Joints between day pours
Xypex was effectively used to waterproof concrete to both contain and exclude water, as well as enhancing the durability against chloride Ion attack. The development went on to win ‘Best Apartment in the UK’, ‘Best Apartment in West Sussex’ and ‘Best Development in West Sussex’ for its quality.
