Waterproofing to the upper deck of a Network Rail station car park within a 24-acre regeneration project, located in the New England quarter of Brighton.
To ensure the on-going protection against water penetration from the upper deck of a 2-storey car park, to the cars parked below. As the deck would be subject to daily loading, the potential for hair-line cracks to break any resistance to water penetration was high.
The crystalline technology within Xypex ensures the waterproofing self-heals, safeguarding the integrity of the concrete structure to continually resist water ingress. This makes Xypex the perfect choice for concrete structures that will be subject to high risk of movement and stress.
The construction of the upper deck was pre-cast concrete planks that were supported by a steel frame. Some of the planks spanned up to 14 metres with a concrete topped wearing coarse. Ultimately this concrete topping wearing coarse had to be directly lined.
Xypex Admix was used in the 150mm thick in-situ concrete topping to the pre-cast concrete planks. A project specific detail for the junction with the central drainage channel was designed prior to commencement, using Xypex Concentrate as both a slurry and Dry Pac.

The crystalline self-healing technology of Xypex provided a long-term solution to the protection of the concrete in this high-stress structure. This means that Xypex admixture is more adaptable to this environment than pore blocking additives.
