Cottam Power Station, Nottinghamshire

Originally commissioned in 1969 when it was part of the Central Electricity Generating Board, the Cottam Power Station has been a constant on the landscape ever since. Privatisation has meant there have been several changes of ownership with power station now being owned by Electricity de France. They have upgraded the station from a 400mw gas turbine to a 2000mw coal fired power station.

As part of the power upgrade, a 12m deep Coffer Dam was constructed in 2004.
Cottam Power Station is located near Retford in Nottinghamshire and is adjacent to the River Trent, meaning that the upgrade works had to withstand a 6 metre hydrostatic head of pressure.

The slab was designed and cast utilising Xypex Admix, which not only waterproofs but also enhances the durability of the concrete.

SMR Projects Ltd specified the joints, including project specific details to seal the concrete slab against the steel sheet piled walls and an enhanced day joint detail to provide a complete waterproof environment.
